Kamado BONO EVO Easy Lift System – Designed for Effortless Grilling
One of the first things you’ll notice when opening a Kamado BONO EVO is how light and smooth the lid feels. Despite the grill’s heavy ceramic construction, the Easy Lift hinge system makes opening and closing the lid effortless.
This wasn’t achieved by chance. It was the result of years of engineering, testing, and product development.
Why We Developed a New Hinge System
When the first Kamado BONO EVO ceramic bodies were produced, they weighed more than 150 kg. The new cylindrical design featured thicker ceramic walls, a taller body, and several structural improvements compared to previous generations.
While these changes improved cooking performance and durability, they also increased the overall weight of the grill.
Our goal was simple: create a hinge system that would make lifting the lid feel easy, regardless of the grill’s size.
Designed Specifically for EVO
We initially tested our existing hinge system on the EVO platform. Although it performed well, it didn’t deliver the smooth lifting experience we wanted.
Instead of adapting an existing solution, we decided to develop a completely new hinge mechanism.
The Kamado BONO EVO was designed in Lithuania, and its distinctive cylindrical design is protected by a registered design patent. From the very beginning, our goal was to create original engineering solutions that reflected the EVO concept, rather than simply following existing designs.
Working together with engineers specializing in precision metal components, we spent nearly two years designing, testing, and refining what would eventually become the Kamado BONO Easy Lift system.
Throughout development, multiple prototypes were produced, tested, improved, and tested again until we achieved the performance we were looking for.
Built for Long-Term Reliability
Creating a smooth hinge was only part of the challenge. It also needed to withstand years of regular grilling.
To evaluate long-term durability, we calculated how frequently a typical grill owner opens the lid.
If a grill is used around 20 times per month, with approximately 10 lid openings during each cooking session, the hinge performs around 2,400 opening cycles every year.
Our target was clear:
24,000 opening cycles — equivalent to approximately 10 years of intensive use.
24,000-Cycle Endurance Test
To validate the design, the Easy Lift system underwent an intensive endurance test.
The lid was repeatedly opened and closed thousands of times under different conditions, including operation at temperatures up to 300°C.
During testing, small areas requiring improvement were identified and redesigned before the complete test was repeated.
Only after successfully completing the full endurance programme was the hinge approved for production.
